On the night before the night before preschool we asked Josie what she wanted to do on her last day of summer vacation.
She sat and thought really hard until she finally said, "Balloons. I think, yellow for my first, and for my second one…purple."
Josie continued with requests for cupcakes and something "fabulous." Excitedly, she went on about the balloons and how she wanted to let them go, and watch them fly to the clouds until they popped.
The next day, as she held her balloons, we learned that we didn't fully understand why she wanted the balloons. It turns out she wanted to "hop on" and fly to the clouds herself. In a world where nothing comes easy to her, she must have imagined how free she would feel hopping from cloud to cloud. After a couple of jumps, she remained on our front lawn. Never one to let anything get her down, with a smile on her face, she danced with her balloons all day until they finally deflated.
Today, she set off on her first day of preschool.
Fly high, my sweet girl.
