As a plus sized woman, I am always looking for the latest fashion trends that suit my figure and style. Admittedly, I am addicted to all reality shows related to fashion, including Fashion Police and What Not To Wear. I may wear a larger size, but that doesn't mean I can't look fantastic wearing the same looks I see in the current fashion magazines.
I was thrilled to receive an invitation to Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show. Did I happen to mention that Strut took place during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week?
It has been a long time since I have accepted an invitation to such an event. My invites as of late involve pizza and an animatronic mouse.
I was able to bring my husband along with me because I was able to find willing babysitters for my crew. Abigail was so jealous. She is quite the fashion maven. I have no doubt she will be in attendance at Fashion Week in a few years.
Fashion week AND date night – Score!
I put on my new eShakti dress, and the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever worn, and headed to the Stage at Lincoln Center. We sat our bums down on our cute seat cushions, courtesy of Cottonelle, and I took in the sights and sounds.
Entertainment was provided by the cutest 10 year old DJ I have ever seen.
All of a sudden, in a flash of glitter and fabulousness, Jay Manuel was a few rows down in front of me. Abigail would have been in heaven. I couldn't wait to get home to tell her all about my evening.
The show featured real moms walking the runway with their kids while wearing fashions from a collection of top contemporary designers showcasing looks in a wide range of sizes that are affordable and realistic for today’s moms. Each mom strut to promote a charity of their choice. My favorite model was Claire Lazarus, a thirteen year old honoring the memory of her mother who passed away from breast cancer in 2010.
After the show, we walked around and “people watched” a bit. Groups of spectators congregated around the fountain to watch the live broadcast from the runway.
Remember those uncomfortable shoes? I threw them in my swag bag and walked barefoot through the city in search of flats.
