When it comes to honoring inspiring women, Barbie has done its part to honor those that have broken the glass ceiling and paved the way for generations of girls to come. This month, the Barbie Inspiring Women series is adding a new doll to the collection and she is the perfect role model as the school year comes to an end. Helen Keller, the first deafblind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree is the newest trailblazer in the series.
Keller was a renowned author, speaker, educator and advocate. The doll wears a striped skirt and blouse with ruffled lace details, inspired by her time as a student in the early 1900s. She even carries a book with molded braille on its cover.
Barbie teamed up with the National Federation of the Blind, a membership and advocacy organization for blind Americans. This partnership not only ensured the doll was authentic but that the accessories and packaging were accessible for the blind/low vision community.
The Helen Keller Inspiring Women doll is available at retailers nationwide, including Amazon, and on Barbie.com.
